Maui County Public Health Emergency Rules Update - Effective September 15th

The final version of the Public Health Emergency Rules for Maui County were released today. They are effective September 15th, 2021.

We encourage everyone to read the rules to best understand the new rules here: https://mauicounty.gov/DocumentCenter/View/125111/COM_Public-Health-Emergency-Rules

Here are a few highlights:

  • We are now going to "Safer Outdoors" - the language still says it is safer at home, which is true, but if you go out, it is much safer to be outdoors. The idea is that we are safer at home and outdoors. Businesses are still allowed to operate.
  • Restaurants, bars, gyms and other social establishments with higher risk activities must limit their occupancy to no more than 50% (per the Governor's rule) and now customers over the age of 12 must show proof of full vaccination. Children under 12 years old may still accompany fully vaccinated adults. Unvaccinated individuals over 12 years old can dine outdoors, go through the drive thru or get takeout.
  • Employees of these locations must also be fully vaccinated or go through weekly tests.
  • Bars and restaurants must close no later than 10pm.
  • Commercial recreational boating may operate with 50% capacity.
  • No spectators are allowed for outdoor or indoor organized sports.
  • Ground transportation and commercial tour operators may operate at no more than 50% capacity of each respective licensed vehicle, excluding the driver.
