Today, Governor Ige announced the launch of SMART Health Card program on Friday.
- SMART health cards are for people vaccinated in Hawaii
- They follow the format recommended by the vaccine credential initiative using national and international standards
- A similar program is already being used by other states as well like California and New York and some vaccine providers like CVS
- It is built into the Safe Travels application - travel.hawaii.gov - as that was the fastest way to build it out
- It verifies that the vaccination card for the person vaccinated in Hawaii is authentic and keeps a digital copy of the vaccine record digitally so you can share with others
- Can use to prove vaccination status instead of your physical card
- A QR code can be loaded into your Samsung Pay, Apple and Android devices.
- You can visit travel.hawaii.gov, access your account or create a new account, a Smart health card button will show up, upload a photo of your vaccine document, select the smart health card feature and complete the application.
- You can show the QR code to businesses with ID as proof of vaccination. Businesses can then see that it is a state issued and verified vaccine record.
- Businesses can then take it a step further and scan the QR code with a validator app
- It is not required that you use this program. You can still provide your physical vaccine card as proof of vaccination. It is an optional program that makes it more convenient for you.
- A user guide and FAQ page will be on the website in the next few days.
The program will launch on Friday!
