Info:
The Maui Trade Dollar program was created in 1992 to raise funds
for the Maui Chamber of Commerce Foundation. This non-profit foundation
promotes educational excellence and other worthwhile community
betterment projects on Maui.
Designed around a coin about the size of a traditional U.S. silver
dollar, the Maui Trade Dollar program may be used at participating
Maui businesses to purchase goods or kept as a memento of one’s
time on or interest in the Valley Isle.
Maui Dollars have evolved into a highly sought after collector
piece with many collectors actively trading them in order to complete
the sets dating to the 1992 issue. Each year a new design is created
with emphasis on Maui’s unique wildlife.
The 2006 Maui Dollar features Maui’s most famous annual
visitor, the humpback whale. These enormous yet graceful animals
migrate thousands of miles each winter, from cold Alaskan waters,
to mate and deliver their young in the warm waters along Maui’s
coastline. Whale watches are a “must do” when visiting
Maui in the winter months.
Maui Dollars are available at many of the island’s best-known
attractions and gift shops. The most common is the cupro-nickel
type available on island at many stores for the face value of
$1. They are available at the Chamber’s office on Maui for
this price.
Currently, Maui Trade Dollars from the past four years are available—2003,
2004, 2005 and 2006.
The online cost is $3.00 each. Or, all four coins can be purchased
for the discounted price of $10. The price includes First Class
shipping via the US Post Office within the US. Shipments outside
of the US require a separate quote.
